Tankless Water Heater Installation and Repair
The main advantage of going tankless is that you get to enjoy endless hot water. If you have kids that like to take long showers, you don’t have to have a recovery time for that water heater to heat back up (which usually takes about 45 minutes). It’s truly a luxurious option that many homeowners in our area are choosing.
Things You Should Know Before Switching
The first, most important thing you need to understand is that your gas bill will go up when you switch to a tankless water heater. This is because instead of burning 40,000 BTU heating your water, you’re burning 200,000 BTU heating your water.
That being said, we do not recommend electric tankless. If you do an electric tankless, it’s going to be far worse than gas. Most likely you’re going to have to get your electrical upgraded coming into your house and possibly your electrical panel upgraded. Going electric tankless could cost you $10,000 in upgrades of electrical, and then your electric bill is going to be very high on top of that.
The most common repair for a tankless water heater is the igniter in your heat sensor. It’s similar to a heating unit in that respect. You have an igniter that ignites it, but you have a heat sensor that tells you that it’s on. If that heat sensor gets too much corrosion on it, t won’t detect that it’s running. It’ll think that there’s something wrong and it’ll error code out.
It’s then typically our job to come over, order the kit to take all that stuff apart, and clean everything up. It comes with the fireproof felt gaskets that we have to use when we take stuff off, and you have to replace those every time because they fall apart.
So, we come out, clean up those–the sensor rods and everything–and then put everything back together.
