Sewer Camera Inspection
If you’re having stoppages on a regular basis, we come in and inspect the line with a camera to figure out why you’re having stoppages; whether it’s root intrusion, a belly, or an area holding water. That’s going to prevent you from getting sewer back up into your house and having sewer water spill over everywhere.
Most Common Problems Found With a Sewer Camera
Bellies: To fix a belly, we have to dig up the problem area plus another 2 to 3 feet on each side, possibly 4 feet. This allows us to raise that pipe where it’s sagging and bed it back in properly with the dirt underneath it. If we find old cast iron, we have to cut it out and replace that piece. If we find clay tile, we’ll encourage you get rid of all of it and replace it before you have any troubles. This is because once clay tiles start getting compromised, they start cracking really easily and start collapsing.
Root Intrusion: Roots love to dig into pipes to find water and nutrients. If you have a really big tree right next to a system, it’s common for the roots to penetrate the pipes. When we start digging up sewer lines and cutting up roots, that can often kill a part of the tree, which many homeowners don’t want. If you want to protect your tree, the best thing to do is reroute the sewer around the tree.

Invest in a Sewer Camera Inspection Before Buying a Home
With sewer lines, you cannot see them because they are underground. The only way to find out if your sewer lines are in good shape is to run a camera down them. If you have an older house with cast iron pipes, you especially want to check it out, because they haven’t used cast iron since the mid-80s. Everything cast iron in the ground is going to be compromised and going to have to be replaced in the next 5 to 10 years.
It’s better to make sure that an inspection is done prior to signing. That way, you can have that value taken off the house or have them put that money in escrow to pay for it when you get ready to do it.
