Toilet Installation and Repair
The Most Common Toilet Repairs
There is no argument. Fill valves and flappers and the most common things to break on a toilet.
Usually, if the fill valve is the problem, the toilet will continue to run or it’ll get some debris in it and it won’t fill the toilet up at all. Flappers are in the bottom of the tank. They have a gallon and a half of water pushing down on them, it’s common that they end up getting deformed and leaking.
Fill valves: The solution here is to replace them. Fill valves are glued together plastic pieces. All we do is take it out, put a new one in, and set it to the height for the toilet for the flush. After that, you’re good to go.
Flappers: Depending on the toilet we might have to get a specific flapper. There are five different types of Kohler flappers, for example. We’ll make sure to get the right flapper for the toilet. If we didn’t, it wouldn’t work and would continue to leak.

How Going Modern Saves You Money
A lot of the older toilets that we’ve been replacing lately have a 3.5 gallon flush. The new toilets are 1.28 gallons. With that simple fact, you’re able to see how you’re saving over two gallons of water per flush, which decreases your water bills.
Faulty and old toilets eat at water bills like crazy. If the fill valve is running constantly, it will cause it to over go over the fill tube and run down in the toilet. If the flapper is bad, it’s the same thing. The water will run past the flapper and as soon as it gets down to a certain point and the fill valve float drops so much it’ll kick back on, filling the tank back up.
With all these new smart meters, a lot of times if you have an issue that makes your water bill go up, the city calls you and tells you that your water bill is considerably higher than what it normally is. A lot of times the homeowner might not even know they have a problem until the city reaches out. It’s a very valuable relationship.
